Mike Figg, who is currently HSBC’s deputy head of housing, will take up the role on 1 July.

He will replace Dave Cassidy, who has served as head of social housing at Barclays Corporate Banking since May 2015 and will move to become head of public sector, the bank said.

Mr Figg, who has spent the past 18-and-a-half years at HSBC, will lead Barclays’ work across social housing, which serves around 160 housing associations.

He will be responsible for financing solutions, sector engagement and relationships with key stakeholders and policymakers in the social housing sector, Barclays said.

Mr Figg said: “I’ve long admired the work Barclays does in the social housing space and am truly excited to join their world-class team.

“I’m committed to helping deliver on the bank’s vision for a simpler, better and more balanced operation and can’t wait to get started.”

Barclays said that the appointment reinforces its “commitment to investing in top-level talent in order to deliver on the bank’s strategy and financial commitments over the next three years”.

This year, Barclays was among three investors that agreed a £254m revolving credit facility with Stonewater, and was one of the bookrunners for three bond issuances in the sector.

These include: Platform’s £250m sustainability bond, Paradigm Housing Group’s £250m sustainability bond and Sovereign Network Group’s £400m sustainability-linked bond.

Last month, NatWest Group announced that it is aiming to lend the UK social housing sector up to £5bn over the next three years.
