BPHA, which manages 19,500 homes, has appointed G15 vice-chair and One Housing Group boss Richard Hill as its new chief executive, to replace Kevin Bolt, who is set to retire after nine years in charge.
Mr Hill has spent the past five years as chief executive at One Housing, during which time the group joined the G15 in 2018 and merged with Riverside in December 2021, creating a 75,000-home landlord. Mr Hill has also been serving as vice-chair of the G15 since July 2021.
Prior to his time at One Housing, Mr Hill was chief executive of Spectrum Housing, which he led into a merger with Sovereign Housing.
He has also held senior leadership roles at the Homes and Communities Agency and the Housing Corporation, and is the non-executive chair of drugs and alcohol rehabilitation charity Phoenix Futures.
Mr Hill will join BPHA in May when current chief executive Kevin Bolt retires after nine years leading the Bedford-based association.
Mr Bolt was due to step down in May 2022, but stayed on while merger talks between BPHA, Flagship Homes and Futures Housing Group were active.
In April last year, the three social landlords announced plans to merge to create a 60,000-home group, but they abandoned this intention and ended talks in October.
At the time, they said that their aims to merge were no longer feasible due to the change in economic circumstances over the past six months.
Commenting on Mr Hill’s appointment, Paul Leinster, chair of BPHA, said: “We are very pleased to welcome Richard to BPHA. He brings extensive knowledge of the sector and is ideally placed to build on the excellent nine-year tenure of our retiring chief executive, Kevin Bolt, in leading a successful organisation that is proud to be driven by its social purpose.
“Richard shares the desire of the BPHA team to provide excellent, value for money services for our customers, and maintain and develop affordable, energy-efficient, sustainable housing into the future.”
Mr Hill said: “I am excited and feel privileged to lead BPHA, an excellent organisation that is clearly driven by its core values and social mission.
“I very much look forward to building on the very firm foundations left by Kevin, and working with customers, the BPHA team and our partners, to embrace the opportunities and meet the challenges for BPHA and our sector over the next few years.”
Mr Bolt said: “I am very pleased to be handing over to Richard and am sure that BPHA will go from strength to strength under his leadership.”
