Community Housing hires interim chief financial officer

Community Housing has appointed Ebele Akojie as interim chief financial officer for a six-month period.

Community Housing either manages or has work in progress towards building 2,269 homes across Worcestershire. The provider is rated G1/V2 by the Regulator of Social Housing.

 

The appointment follows Richard Lethbridge’s decision to step down from his role as director of finance.

Ms Akojie brings over 20 years of experience in finance, governance and resource management.

 

She has held senior positions including as chief financial officer at One Housing Group, and most recently as executive director of finance and resources at Settle from October 2021 to April 2024.

 

Ms Akojie also served as finance director at Genesis, which merged with Notting Hill in 2018 to become Notting Hill Genesis. She then worked as financial strategy and operations director at the combined group.

 

In addition to her executive roles, Ms Akojie currently serves as a non-executive director at South East-based housing association Golding Homes, for-profit registered provider Heylo and the South West London and St George’s Mental Health NHS Trust.

Community Housing said: “[Ms Akojie’s] extensive expertise will be invaluable in supporting Community Housing’s financial strategy and ensuring the organisation remains well positioned to deliver long-term sustainability and value for residents.”

 

A number of appointments and departures within finance departments in the sector have been announced over the past few months.

 

In February, Yorkshire Housing promoted Rob Parkes to executive director of finance and governance.

 

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing revealed that Ian Johnson will step down as chief financial officer at the G15 landlord in the autumn.

During the same month, Alpha Living announced that Darren Watmough will retire as director of finance and resources at the later living provider following a 36-year career in housing.
