Ocean Media Group, which publishes Social Housing and its sister title Inside Housing alongside running a number of housing and other industry events, has collaborated with communications agency Social to launch the hub.

Unlock Net Zero will seek to share information and resources with its audience on the technologies, infrastructure and behaviour change required to deliver net zero, and to “identify and explain how the country transitions to a net zero future in practical terms”.

An editorial board has been established for the site, comprising senior executives from government agencies and departments, and private and public organisation across the build environment and energy-focused sectors.

Organisations involved include Homes England, Green Finance Institute, British Property Federation, Aico, New Economics Foundation and Energy Saving Trust.

Commenting on the launch, portal founder and lead Sarah Payling, group event director (housing) at Ocean Media Group, said: “The government has signposted a clean green energy system as the cornerstone of how we build back better.

“We feel there is a need for a cohesive net zero information offering at present, so we want to work in collaboration with academia, government and industry to build a powerful knowledge resource to reduce our dependence on high carbon energy intensity and deliver on our 2050 targets.”

Andy Cameron-Smith, editorial director for unlocknetzero.co.uk and director – net zero at Social, added: “Our aim is to build a powerful knowledge hub and community. The site is intended to be a positive, non-judgemental space; this is all about informing how we can achieve net zero.

“Our immediate response to COVID-19 aside, climate change is the biggest challenge we face. We will only deliver on a net zero future if we work in partnership and we hope this site will prove to be a collaborating force to make that happen.”
