Waqar Ahmed, who has been the G15 landlord’s group finance director for the past 15 years, joined the charity’s board this month.

Mr Ahmed, who also sits on the board of the National Housing Federation, said: “Throughout my career and personal experience, I’ve learnt how important housing is and I’m excited to bring this expertise to Crisis to make a real difference to people’s lives.”

Crisis warned last month that 300,000 households could be made homeless this year due to the cost of living crisis and rising rents.

Joining Mr Ahmed as a new trustee is Kath Palmer, chief executive of Welsh housing association Cynon Taf Community Housing Group.

Ms Palmer said: “I am delighted at the opportunity to be working with Crisis, which operates such vital services and policy work across England, Scotland and Wales to eradicate homelessness, and I am looking forward to the challenge of making a positive difference to people’s lives in all three nations.”

The other trustee appointments are Sapna Dutta, senior executive at consumer goods firm Reckitt; Charlotte Bates, a trained lawyer and mediator; Ezechi Britton, chair of Uome, a tech platform for small businesses, and founder of Impact X Capital, a venture capital fund for helping underrepresented entrepreneurs.

As a result, Crisis now has 15 board trustees.

Tristia Harrison, chair of Crisis, said: “We are fortunate to have added five trustees to our board who will bring a wealth and breadth of experience, knowledge and expertise to help us on our mission to end homelessnes.”

Crisis’ current deputy chair is Terrie Alafat, former chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Housing and current chair of large national housing association The Riverside Group.
