Ilke Homes is to create 150 new jobs in Harrogate, Yorkshire, with the opening of its first manufacturing factory.
The modular homes business, which specialises in offsite manufacturing, plans to build up to 2,000 units a year. Its initial recruitment wave will consist of 100 operators and 50 support roles, while the number of staff is anticipated to grow to 800 over the next two-to-three years.
Greg Clark, business secretary, said: “Ilke Homes’s new factory in Harrogate will use innovative offsite manufacturing to build modular affordable homes, creating high-quality jobs and contributing to the industrial strategy’s bold plan of action when it comes to infrastructure and housing. This includes an investment of £866m through the Housing Infrastructure Fund into local projects that will get 200,000 houses off the ground.”
Operations at the factory are scheduled to start in March this year, with the modular homes transported to sites across the UK.
The house builder is partnering housing associations, developers and registered providers to provide homes that can, it said, be built in “less than half the time” of traditional construction.
Björn Conway, chief executive of Ilke Homes, said: “We’re pleased to be able to create high-quality jobs in Yorkshire, including a new type of manufacturing role for the local construction industry. Our culture at Ilke Homes will be very collaborative – the design engineering team will be hands-on, working with the manufacturing team in the factory to solve issues and deliver a product that is not only truly cost-effective, but also meets the needs of modern living.
