Orbit has announced the appointment of Mark Hoyland as interim chief executive, as former boss Paul Tennant prepares to lead the Law Society of England and Wales.
Mr Hoyland’s most recent role was as managing director at construction company Balfour Beatty, where he was tasked with transforming the engineering services business. Prior to this he held positions at Peverel Property Services, managing services to 200,000 homes, and spent five years as chief executive at City West Homes.
Tessa Blackstone, Orbit group chair, said: ‘Mark has a strong track record and a wealth of experience in the housing and construction sectors.
‘We are very pleased to have him leading the organisation during this brief transition period. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Paul Tennant for his commitment as chief executive for the past 14 years.’
Orbit said it will ‘shortly’ begin the recruitment process for a permanent chief executive.
Meanwhile, Robert Bourns, the Law Society president, has welcomed Mr Tennant.
He said: ‘I am delighted to be working with Paul Tennant whilst we finalise arrangements for recruiting a permanent chief executive for the organisation.
‘Paul has been chief executive of a large and complex housing organisation but also has a clear understanding of non-executive leadership roles, having been president of the Chartered Institute of Housing. This perspective will be helpful as we consider future ways of working.’
Mr Tennant added: ‘I am looking forward to working with the president, council and staff at the Law Society for the next few months.’
