Riverside has appointed Accent Group boss Paul Dolan as chief executive to replace outgoing incumbent Carol Matthews #UKhousing #SocialHousingFinance

Mr Dolan is currently chief executive of 20,700-home Accent Group, a role he has served in since 2017.

He will join Riverside, a G15 landlord that manages 76,600 homes in England and Scotland, in May when Ms Matthews retires after 12 years in charge.

Prior to Accent, Mr Dolan was chief executive of Johnnie Johnson Housing Trust, which manages almost 5,000 homes across the North West, North East, Yorkshire and Derbyshire, including specialist independent living homes for people over 55.

He has also served as chair for Yorkshire and the Humber at the National Housing Federation.

Terrie Alafat, group chair of Riverside, said: “I’m delighted to confirm Paul’s appointment.

“Paul was the stand-out candidate in a strong field and will bring a wealth of experience to Riverside, a passion for social housing and a dedication to customer service.

“As one of the largest housing associations in the country, Riverside plays an integral role in helping shape the sector’s approach and voice. I know, given Paul’s qualities, he will continue to lead that work.”

Mr Dolan said: “I am honoured to step into the role of chief executive at Riverside and excited to join such a highly regarded organisation.

“Under Carol’s guidance, Riverside has achieved significant milestones, and I am fortunate to inherit an organisation formed on such strong foundations. I look forward to building upon Carol’s legacy, embracing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

“As I step into this new role, my commitment is to uphold the strong values and principles that have made Riverside a respected provider in the housing sector.

“By working alongside Riverside’s board and committees, colleagues, customers, and partners, I am eager to leverage our collective expertise to continue delivering great services and creating thriving communities as we work together to address the evolving needs of our residents.”

In June last year, Riverside hired Jehan Weerasinghe to the new role of managing director at its recently acquired London-based subsidiary One Housing.

The group is currently graded G2/V2 by the Regulator of Social Housing.

According to its financial results for the year ending 31 March 2023, Riverside posted a loss of £2.7m before tax, a drop from a restated surplus of £702.7m in the previous year.
