One of the largest housing associations operating in North East England is looking for a new finance boss after it emerged the most recent incumbent left in April #UKHousing

Beyond Housing, which operates around 15,000 homes across Teeside and North Yorkshire, is advertising for a new chief finance officer to join its two-strong executive team.

The successful applicant will receive an annual salary of £133,000, according to the job advert.

“This is a critical role for us, and our new CFO will be joining us as we complete and commit to a new five-year strategy,” the advert said.

Final interviews are expected to take place on 9 August.

The successful applicant will be a replacement for Kevin Hanlon, who had been the landlord’s CFO for nearly five years after joining from Chesterfield Council.

A Beyond Housing spokesperson told Social Housing that Mr Hanlon left the organisation in April this year.

“We can confirm we are recruiting for a new chief financial officer," the spokesperson said.

However it is unclear why Mr Hanlon stepped down or where he has gone.

At the time of his appointment, Beyond Housing hailed the fact that Mr Hanlon had “almost 30 years of financial experience within both the private and public sectors”.

His exit has meant the landlord currently has two people on its executive team – chief executive Rosemary Du Rose, and chief operations officer Steve Rawson.

Beyond Housing also previously had a director of strategy and change, but the person in this role – Marie Roe – left the organisation in 2021 after just under two years, according to her LinkedIn profile.

In March, the Scarborough-based group returned to a top grade of G1 for governance with the Regulator of Social Housing, and kept its V1 rating.

Beyond Housing was previously found non-compliant with the RSH’s Rent Standard in 2022 after it was found to have overcharged residents nearly £3m for rent since 2010. The issue affected 486 properties.

Ms Du Rose said the issue was found after an audit of rents in one of its “legacy organisations”, which the regulator identified as Coast & Country Housing.

Beyond Housing was formed in 2018, following the merger of Coast & Country Housing and Yorkshire Coast Homes.

In its last reported financial year to the end of March 2023, the group saw its post-tax surplus more than triple to £7.7m, helped by a 19 per cent jump in turnover to £91.4m.
