Former justice minister Rachel Maclean has been named as housing minister, becoming the sixth this year and the 15th in the current Conservative administration.
Earlier this week, Ms Maclean was appointed as a minister for state in the Department for Levelling Up Housing and Communities, but her portfolio had not yet been confirmed. She was previously minister of state at the Ministry of Justice between 7 September and 28 October 2022.
Now on Twitter, she has confirmed that she is the housing minister.
Ms Maclean replaces Lucy Frazer, who left the role after around three months in charge to head the new refocused Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Ms Maclean becomes the sixth housing minister this year.
Chris Pincher held the role from September 2021 to February 2022 when Stuart Andrew took over until July, then Marcus Jones served until September.
Then Lee Rowley spent 49 days in the role before Ms Frazer took up the ministry from 26 October to 7 February.
Ms Maclean said on Twitter: “Thank you to everyone for their kind messages following my appointment as housing minister.
“I’m looking forward to working with everyone on one of the most important issues – housing – facing our country at this time.”
Ms Maclean has also served as parliamentary under-secretary of state in two departments, at the Home Office between September 2021 and July 2022, and at the Department for Transport between February 2020 and September 2021.
